A HOTEL worker has pleaded guilty to killing ants by pouring cleaning fluid down anthills.
John Glasscock, an employee at the Royal Forest Hotel, Rangers Road, Chingford, appeared at Waltham Forest Magistrates Court last week.
He was fined £25 with £75 costs.
Glasscock was spotted knocking the top of anthills on Epping Forest land behind the pub and pouring the liquid down them to kill the ants.
He said he was acting on his manager's instructions because last year the pub had a problem with flying ants, but the ants he killed were yellow meadow ants, a different species.
