FILM star Ray Winstone will appear on Who Wants to be a Millionaire to raise money for Haven House Children's Hospice.

The star of Sexy Beast, best known for his performances in East End gangster films, and more recently in ITV's series on King Henry VIII, is joining forces with actress Amanda Redman in the episode to be screened on Saturday.

Haven House committee fundraiser and event organiser, Avril Mills, said she first met Ray at a charity football match with actor Glen Murphy, and since then he has always supported the Woodford Green children's hospice.

Ms Mills said: "Ray has always supported us, he comes to our summer fetes, balls, and helps with the auction.

"At the end of the day he is a local boy supporting a local cause.

"He was approached by Who Wants to be a Millionaire and said he wanted the money to go to Haven House. We were stunned and amazed, and we are very grateful to him. He really does support us in whatever we do."

Ms Mills said she went to the filming of the world-famous game show with Haven House administrator Liz Chappell and met host Chris Tarrant. The results of the quiz cannot be released until after the show is screened.

Ray from Roydon, Essex, was born in Hackney, east London, but moved to Enfield when he was seven.

Educated at Edmonton County, Winstone joined the famous Repton Amateur Boxing Club when he was 12.

The ex-boxer will also be attending Haven House's charity ball on Friday, May 14. Stars appearing at the sell-out event include former EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer, London's Burning actor Glen Murphy and Birds of A Feather actress Linda Robson.

Anyone keen to become a volunteer fundraiser for Haven House can attend an information evening on Monday, April 19, at Woodford Green Prep School, Glengall Road, at 7.30pm.
