A TALENTED singer songwriter from Walthamstow is on the verge of hitting the big time after reaching number one in the garage music chart.

Carly Bond, of Broomfield, Walthamstow, last week hit the number one spot with the self-penned song Not Wise, co-performed by Dr Venom.

The 21-year-old law student recorded the track while studying at Leicester University. She is currently taking her third year of law studies on an exchange trip at a university in Spain.

The soulful singer has performed a live session on BBC1 Xtra's digital radio station and has also recorded a track with chart-topping Garage DJ Jamieson, featured on his current album.

Proud mum Sue Blake, 45, hopes the track will now become so popular in clubs across the country that it will go mainstream and enter the UK pop charts.

She said: "It's been more of a hobby for her but when Carly started at the university she started taking it more seriously with some other students.

"I'm very proud of her, she seems to be getting on with everything very well. Music is her love, she's got a genuine talent and that's where her heart lies.

"I think she hopes to go further. She auditioned for Pop Idol and didn't get through, but said she would be back. I hope the track breaks into the pop charts."

The UK Garage Chart is compiled from 12 specialist garage record shops across the country. For more information log on to www. bbc.co.uk/1xtra
