THE five colours of the Olympic rings are the theme for the 2005 Pride in Waltham forest garden competition, organised as before by Waltham Forest Civic Society.

A spokesman said: "This year we thought we would give the people of Waltham Forest a bit more of a challenge. "Come up with a front garden, balcony or hanging baskets, using the Olympic theme, the five rings and the Olympic colours for the five continents, blue, yellow, black, green and red.

"Use your imagination. You could have the five rings, or if you were really ambitious there could be figures in flowers running, jumping, throwing the javelin, weight-lifting and so on."

The display must be visible from the street but can be a front garden, balcony, or hanging baskets. The closing date for entries is May 31, but you will need to start planning now. You can nominate your own or a garden you particularly admire as you go around the borough.

Judging will take place in the week beginning June 20. Prizegiving will take place at the beginning of July.

Please e-mail your nominations to secretary@wfcs.org.uk, or write to Pride Garden Competition, 480-500 Larkshall Road, E4 9GD.

We will be reminded everyone of the rules regularly in the months to come.
