ORIENT striker Ryan Jarvis was happy to be back in the east Londoners’ starting line-up even if it was on the wing against Carlisle.

The former Norwich man claims that he was disappointed to have been left out of the O’s match at Peterborough the previous weekend.

But the 22-year-old was just glad to return and help Martin Ling’s men bounce back from that defeat, as well as the heavy loss at Ipswich in the Carling Cup, with a creditable draw against the much-fancied Cumbrians.

He said: “The manager and Dean Smith were telling us all week we needed to improve on the last two games and I felt we did that.

“Not only did we get a point against a very good side, we put in the kind of display the pair of them were looking for.

“I thought our attitude was spot on and after the first 15 minutes we dominated the game and were unlucky not to go on and win it.

“Personally I was pleased to be back in the team, because I was a little frustrated to have been left out against Peterborough.

“But that is the manager’s decision and I was just pleased to be back in the team, even if I was played out wide on the right.

“It had been a little while since I played out there, but once I found my feet I really enjoyed it because I was involved a lot in the game and I was just disappointed I wasn’t able to take one of the chances that came my way.”

The former England youth international is now looking for a positive outcome of the match at Brighton this weekend, in the difficult surroundings of the the Withdean Stadium.

He added: “It is a weird ground with the temporary stands and the athletics track around it, but really we’ve just got to concentrate on our football.

“At the end of the day you need to forget about the surroundings, because it is just a football pitch and we need to make sure we our fully focused once we cross that white line.

“Hopefully we can go there and pick up a result, because at the moment the table is still very tight and we want to push ourselves up there.”
