MATCHPLAY CRICKET
Woodford Wells v
South Woodford
(Matchplay semi-final)
WOODFORD Wells went in to bat with Chris Briggs and Andrew Gibbon opening the innings.
Disaster struck for Wells in the first over when Briggs was run out without scoring.
New batsman Rishabh Shah and Andrew Gibbon then put on a partnership of 40 before Shah was caught by the wicket keeper having made 17.
This brought Rahul Patel to the crease and he and Gibbon then set about the South Woodford bowlers adding a partnership of 144 before Gibbon was caught by the wicket keeper having made 85.
Next up was Tom Wheater and he and Patel added a brisk 33 before Wheater was run out trying to add further quick runs.
In at six was James Harrington and he and Patel then finished the innings off by taking the final score to 228-5 at the end of the 40 overs.
South Woodford set about their task but were pegged back in the fifth over when their opening batsman was out LBW to Wheater and the score was on nine for one.
Wheater and Liam Wood bowled superbly but a partnership of 52 then took place bringing South Woodford back into the game at 61 for one before Shah came onto bowl.
A procession of six wickets then fell to leg spinner Shah taking the score to 101 for seven. The final figures for Shah were 8-1-23-6.
All that was needed was for Nick Shellock and Gibbon to take the final three wickets and South Woodford had been bowled out for 108 making Woodford Wells victorious by 120 runs.
Wells will play Hadleigh and Thundersley in the Matchplay final on September 7 at The County Ground Chelmsford.
